Fmr. Prez. Gotabaya categorically denies CH4 claims

07 Sep 2023 | BY Lahiru Doloswala

Former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has rejected the claims made in a recent documentary by the British network Channel 4 regarding the 2019 Easter Sunday Attacks in Sri Lanka.

In the documentary titled 'Sri Lanka’s Easter Bombings,' whistleblowers allege that government officials were complicit in the attacks, and the plot was intended to create insecurity in the country to benefit Rajapaksa in the 2019 presidential election.

Rajapaksa has characterized the documentary as an "anti-Rajapaksa tirade" aimed at tarnishing the Rajapaksa legacy from 2005 onwards.

The documentary has presented serious allegations based on the testimonies of high-placed whistleblowers who have sought asylum in Switzerland and have provided their accounts to the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) and European intelligence agencies.

The 2019 Easter Sunday bombings in Sri Lanka targeted several Catholic churches and luxury hotels, resulting in the deaths of over 260 people and numerous injuries.

The documentary has reignited discussions and investigations into the events surrounding the attacks.
