The Customs Trade Union Alliance raised concerns over the release of 323 containers flagged for mandatory inspection without proper checks.
According to its President Amila Sanjeeva, 80% of these containers had red labels, signifying high-risk items requiring thorough examination, yet were cleared for release.
He warned that the containers might contain unapproved medicines, unsafe cosmetics, illegal cigarettes, narcotics, or firearms.
Accordingly, he questioned the authority behind the release and emphasised that Customs officials cannot be held accountable for the contents of the cleared containers.
