A wild elephant was killed after colliding with a van near the 124th Mile Post on the Habarana–Trincomalee main road around 1.00 a.m. today (27).

The van driver and a female passenger were injured and admitted to Habarana Hospital.

Wildlife officials said the elephant, believed to be about 12 years old, was crossing the road from Kaudulla National Park towards Hurulu Eco Park at the time of the accident.

Investigations are being carried out by the Kaudulla Wildlife Office and Hatares Kotuwa Police.
