A wild elephant with a gunshot wound to one of his back legs has been spotted near the Kandalama Reservoir.

Meanwhile, the elephant, known as the ‘Kandalame Hedakaraya’, who was shot in the front leg months ago and has been under treatment, is reported to be in critical condition. The wounded elephant was seen approaching nearby villages and has not yet received any treatment.

Meanwhile, Sigiriya Wildlife Conservation officials state that the ‘Kandalame Hedakaraya’ has been treated on several occasions. They also confirm that the other injured wild elephant was last seen on Tuesday (1).
