The Kaduwela Magistrate's Court yesterday (2) continued hearing a case filed against the Mayor of Kaduwela Ranjan Jayalal and Parliamentarian Asitha Niroshana Egoda Vithana over the alleged forcible acquisition of a 100-perch land plot near the Millennium City housing complex in Athurugiriya. During the proceedings before Kaduwela Magistrate Aruna Indrajith Buddhadasa, the Court granted permission for the Metro Bus Company and its Board of Directors to withdraw from the case. The prosecution objected to a request by a group of Millennium City residents to be included in the case as intervening parties. However, the Magistrate dismissed the objection and allowed their request. The Magistrate also directed that the prosecution's request for permission to erect a wire fence around the disputed land be considered at the next Court hearing. Jayalal, Vithana and several others appeared before the Court during yesterday's proceedings. The next hearing of the case has been scheduled for 16 November.
