Minister of Environment Dhammika Patabendi has vowed strict action against those installing substandard private electric fences, citing them as a major cause of elephant deaths.

He said the Department of Wildlife Conservation has been directed to investigate and take legal action, stressing the urgent need to regulate electric fencing to protect wildlife.
