On 3 May – National Fitness Day – Colombo will host a first-of-its-kind experience in health and wellness with the launch of ‘FitCon Sri Lanka 2025,’ a one-day high-performance convention dedicated to exploring the many facets of fitness, recovery, and holistic well-being.
Held at the Cinnamon Grand Colombo and organised by Haut Monde Event Management in collaboration with Fit.lk, ‘FitCon’ hopes to bring together over 1,000 attendees, 30 brands, and a packed schedule of fitness activations, expert panels, and luxury lifestyle experiences.
‘FitCon’ is the brainchild of Haut Monde Event Management Founder Treshan Weerasooriya Pereira, an avid fitness enthusiast whose travels abroad inspired him to build the concept for Sri Lanka’s first large-scale wellness convention.
“I’ve been to fitness conventions in Europe, Dubai, Australia, and the US,” he said. “They’re massive, and bring together communities built around fitness, health, and wellness. I felt it was time Sri Lanka had something of its own. I saw a market gap when it comes to bringing people together. There’s such a strong and growing market here, we just needed the right platform to bring everyone together, and what better time than National Fitness Day.”
Unlike traditional fitness expos that cater primarily to athletes or gym-goers, ‘FitCon’ takes a much broader view of what it means to be well. The day begins with a sunrise duathlon (5 km run, 20 km cycle, 5 km run) and will unfold across four interactive zones located across the Cinnamon Grand.
These zones – the Endurance and Energy Zone; the Mind, Body, and Stress Relief Zone; the Strength and Power Zone; and the Recovery and Wellness Zone – will each offer curated sessions led by industry experts. Visitors can take part in high-intensity training, explore yoga and sound healing, experience physio and chiropractic care, and test recovery technologies like ice baths and compression therapy.
“For us, it’s about showing people that fitness isn’t one-size-fits-all. ‘FitCon’ is a celebration of who you are and who you want to become, no matter how interested in fitness you are,” Treshan explained.
“It’s a space for anyone to come and learn about fitness and receive free advice from people in fitness and wellness – from influencers known for their work to nutritionists to service providers. You can also try out different forms of wellness and exercise, from endurance to mind, body, and stress relief.
“‘FitCon’ is about opening up possibilities and finding answers to questions you’ve always had but not been sure who to ask,” he added.
Wellness reimagined
For Fit.lk Co-Founder Natasha Fonseka, the event is also about addressing a deep-rooted misconception in Sri Lankan society – that health begins and ends with physical exercise and diet.
“In Sri Lanka, there’s still a very old-school view of wellness,” she noted. “People think if you go for a walk or eat ‘clean,’ that’s enough. But being healthy is so much more; it’s about mental health, organ health, recovery, and even the little things like supplementation,” she said.
Natasha and her partner, Isuru Fonseka, launched Fit.lk to address this gap, working to bring global fitness knowledge and tools into the local space. “We have been in the industry for over 15 years,” she said. “We have seen how far behind we are in educating people about their bodies. ‘FitCon’ is our way of fast-tracking that awareness.”
Among the many elements ‘FitCon’ will showcase are biohacking insights, therapeutic recovery treatments, and new trends in supplementation and stress management. Leading local and international experts will also headline a panel discussion on ‘Unlocking Human Potential,’ examining longevity and modern fitness from a holistic lens, from physical to psychological to social.
Keeping things interesting
‘FitCon’ isn’t all sweat and science; it is also designed to be a luxurious, indulgent experience.
The Vendor Showcase will feature more than 30 brands from across the wellness and fitness spectrum, from movement studios and healthy food services to wellness tech, spas, and recovery services.
Cinnamon Grand’s Coffee Stop will play host to ‘FitWalk,’ a curated athleisure fashion show and high tea that will spotlight activewear brands in a stylish, wellness-themed runway presentation. ‘FitCon’ will conclude with ‘FitSplash,’ a relaxed after-party at Breeze Bar, Cinnamon Grand.
Also woven into the day is a kid-friendly play zone, making the event more accessible to families and parents, and a wellness menu at the hotel’s restaurant, reinforcing the idea that every part of the day is intentionally aligned with the ‘FitCon’ vision.
Keeping things fun is a special Bollywood-inspired dance experience in collaboration with Naach Colombo. “It’s an impromptu flash mob-style dance fitness experience,” Treshan said. “We wanted to end on a high, social note, reminding people that fitness can be fun, expressive, and joyful.”
The event will also feature exclusive giveaways and discounts from wellness brands, with many vendors offering samples, sign-up offers, and trial sessions.
Bringing it back to balance
Natasha emphasised the importance of breaking out of siloed thinking when it came to personal wellness. “Some people find one thing they like – such as yoga or strength training – and stick to it forever. But a healthy lifestyle is about balance. You can’t just do one thing. You need to take care of your body, your mind, and your recovery.”
This holistic approach is central to what ‘FitCon’ aims to deliver: an inclusive space where people can discover new ways to care for themselves without needing to give up the things they love.
“We’re not here to tell people to give up their social lives or follow some extreme routine,” Natasha added. “We want them to see that a healthy lifestyle can be enjoyable and that it can fit into their lives.”
For anyone curious about where to begin, Treshan has a clear message: just show up. “This is a celebration of who you are and who you want to be. Whether you’re an athlete, a beginner, or someone just thinking about making a change, there’s something here for you. You can get advice, try sessions, and meet the people behind your favourite brands. It’s all under one roof.”
