Approximately 25 cybercrime complaints are reported daily, the Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs stated today(20).

Speaking during the Committee Stage Debate on the 2026 Budget, the Minister noted that the majority of incidents were reported from the Northern Province.

Cybercrime incidents have risen significantly.

Data presented showed a sharp rise in the province, with 2,368 complaints recorded up to 31 October 2025, compared to just 24 in 2020.

He confirmed that Computer Crime Investigation Sub-Units had been established under the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) across many districts to address the issue.
