Ovitiyas Group has come forward to sponsor the warm-up and training kits of the St. Joseph’s College, Bandarawela First XI cricket team ahead of the 21st annual Uva Battle of the Golds big match against Bandarawela Central College.
The encounter, recognised as the only annual cricket big match in the Bandarawela region between the two traditional rivals, was held from 24 to 25 April at the Municipal Council Grounds in Bandarawela, drawing students, old boys and supporters from both sides in a vibrant, carnival-like atmosphere.
Ovitiyas Group has maintained a longstanding association with the Uva Battle of the Golds, contributing both as a sponsor and mentor to the competing teams. Continuing this commitment, the Group extended its support this year to the St. Joseph’s College First XI, a side noted for its balance and depth.

St. Joseph’s College entered the encounter under the captaincy of fifth-year coloursman Sarith Malinda, with fellow fifth-year coloursman Sachin Dilanka serving as vice-captain. Third-year coloursman Chalana Randuna took on the role of wicketkeeper, bringing experience to the side.
The squad included Ishan Kavishka, Viboothi Ruwan, Thiwanka Thejan, Chamindu Thejitha, Theekshana Pramodya, Kaveesha Ayanitha, Buddhitha Dilshan, Ravindu Hasara, Thanusha Nimshara, M.D.P. Madubhashitha, Mohamed Fahid, Shenuka Kalhan, Hiresh Kaushalya and Upeksha Malith.
The team was coached by S.M.B. Chamara, while Dulinda Sumathipala served as Master-in-Charge and Prefect of Games, with the support of the Principal of St. Joseph’s College, S.K.G.S.K. Samaranayaka.
