The Government has allocated Rs. 30 billion to implement the 'Pivithuru Purawara' National Waste Management Programme (2026–2029), Secretary to the President Dr Nandika Sanath Kumanayake noted.

The three-year programme aims to strengthen waste collection, recycling and waste segregation, while improving household composting and tackling illegal waste disposal.

The programme will be implemented under the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government and the Clean Sri Lanka Secretariat, with the participation of local authorities nationwide.
