The Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources has urged multi-day fishing vessels operating near the Andaman Islands to immediately move to safer waters due to expected strong winds and rough seas.

Director General Susantha Kahawatte stated that a low-pressure area developing east of Sri Lanka is expected to intensify and move towards India.

Vessels operating in the Andaman Sea and northern Bay of Bengal have also been advised to move south towards Sri Lanka.

The Department noted that several vessels remain in the affected areas and warned that continued fishing could pose risks to vessels and crews.
