In line with the recent increase in public sector salaries, the Cabinet has approved amendments to raise the national minimum monthly and daily wages for private sector employees.
The decision was made at the Cabinet meeting held on 7 April, 2025, and involves amendments to the following acts:
The Workers' Budgetary Relief Allowance Act, No. 36 of 2005
The Workers' Budgetary Relief Allowance Act, No. 4 of 2016
The National Minimum Wage of Workers Act, No. 3 of 2016
The legal draftsman has already prepared the amendment bills, and the Attorney General's clearance has been obtained.
The proposal, submitted by the Minister of Labour, has also been approved for publication in the Government Gazette and subsequent submission to Parliament.
