Four newly appointed members of the Audit Service Commission officially took the oath of secrecy before the Speaker of Parliament, Jagath Wickramaratne, on 4 May.
The new members are former Auditor General Gamini Wijesinghe, former Deputy Auditor General G. Thevagnanan, retired Court of Appeal Judge Nihal Sunil Rajapaksa, and retired public service officer Ratna Deshapriya.
The oath was administered in accordance with Section 9 of the National Audit Act, No. 19 of 2018.
As per the act, members must swear to maintain strict confidentiality regarding all information obtained during their official duties.
Such information is prohibited from being disclosed, discussed, or shared publicly or privately, except when mandated by a court of law, Parliament, or as specified under written law, in accordance with Section 9(b) of the Act.
The ceremony was attended by the Chairperson of the Audit Service Commission and Auditor General, Samudika Jayaratne, along with the Secretary General of Parliament Kushani Rohanadeera, Assistant Secretary General Hansa Abeyratne, Director of Legislative Services M. Jayalath Perera, and several other officials.
