New regulations to mandate vehicle inspections for long-distance buses

11 Sep 2025 | BY Staff Writer

Minister of Transport Bimal Rathnayake announced that new regulations will soon require all buses and vans traveling over 100 km or crossing provincial borders to undergo a mandatory vehicle inspection before each journey.

The new law, based on six key safety factors, will require these vehicles to obtain a certificate within 48 hours of their trip.

The inspections are designed to be straightforward, checking critical components like tires, mirrors, and brakes.

Minister Rathnayake urged the public to ensure that vehicles used for long-distance leisure tours have this certificate, stressing that these regulations are essential for enhancing public transport safety.
