Prime Minister (PM) Harini Amarasuriya announced in Parliament today (06) that a salary commission will be established this year to address salary discrepancies within the principal service and other sectors of the public service.
She explained that the proposed commission aims to provide a sustainable solution to ongoing salary disparities across various government sectors.
The Prime Minister noted that extensive discussions have already taken place with principals and their associations regarding disparities in the principal service.
The Government is actively continuing talks to reach a lasting resolution. As part of its policy, the government plans to appoint the salary commission this year, which is expected to recommend solutions to the existing issues.
PM Amarasuriya emphasized that recent salary increases have created disparities not only in education but also in other sectors, highlighting the urgent need for a sustainable resolution.
She added that proposals concerning the principal service will be submitted to the commission as part of this effort.
