  • Adequate stocks to provide for 4 months

Sri Lanka Thriposha Limited, state supplier for nutrition supplement for infants will resume production of Thriposha for infants and children between the age of six months to three years, with adequate stocks of maize secured for the next three to four months, the producer informed yesterday (9).

The producer is also to enact necessary measures to streamline distribution aimed at addressing the ongoing shortage of the supplements in the coming days, it is learnt.

Speaking to the Daily Morning yesterday (9), the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Thriposha Ltd., Deepthi Kularathna said that the production of Thriposha was hampered earlier due to the lack of raw materials, but now it has been rectified to a certain extent. He said that due to the lack of maize in the Sri Lankan markets they were unable to produce Thriposha for the children between 6 months to 3 years.

“Maize has been obtained to a certain extent and therefore, can produce Thriposha again as we have received necessary maize supply for about 4 months. Also, there should be no shortage from now on, as we are distributing and producing Thriposha as much as we can,” he added.

However he emphasised that the World Health Organization has confirmed the continuous supply of the main ingredients, maize and soybeans, for the next few months of this year, and these ingredients are currently being received by Sri Lanka Thriposha Ltd.

Accordingly, he stated that Thriposha packets are now being distributed to pregnant and breast-feeding mothers who are listed as Triposha beneficiaries, as well children up to 03 years of age.

However, it is learnt that the discussions between the producer and Ministry of Health regarding the contradictions in the criteria related to Thriposha has not been finalised.
