A Fundamental Rights (FR) petition was filed before the Supreme Court (SC) by former Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pillayan, challenging his arrest and detention under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA).

According to the former Minister, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) violated his fundamental human rights by detaining him without probable cause. 

He was arrested for his alleged involvement in the abduction and disappearance of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Eastern University. 

Accordingly, Pilleyan is seeking a SC ruling to affirm the violation of rights, demanding a compensation of Rs. 100 million for the damages suffered.
