Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya has stated that the future of Sri Lanka’s agricultural sector is closely linked to the country’s national economy.

She made the remarks at the launch of the Sri Lanka AgriConnect Joint Implementation Plan in Colombo on 30 October.

The World Bank Group initiative, implemented in partnership with the Sri Lankan Government and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), aims to modernise agriculture through digitalisation, support smallholder farmers and create employment opportunities.

The Prime Minister also noted that the Government’s Public Investment Programme for 2027–2031 allocates approximately Rs. 17.5 trillion for public investment, including Rs. 8.3 trillion to support the transition towards a production-based economy.
