A new ‘Metro’ bus service covering selected routes in Colombo is scheduled to launch in September to improve public transport and reduce private vehicle traffic.

The service will operate on seven routes connecting areas including Makumbura, Pettah, Rajagiriya, Borella, Malabe, Kadawatha, Panadura and Kesbewa.

The routes will use the ‘CM’ code and colour symbols for easy identification.

Authorities will also introduce a digital system linking buses and drivers to help services operate according to scheduled times.
