The Attorney General (AG) has cleared the draft Bill seeking to extend the retirement age of judges.

The AG's Department stated it had forwarded its legal observations on the proposed legislation to the Ministry of Justice.

The Ministry is now expected to finalise the draft Bill and publish it in the Government Gazette. The proposal, which seeks to increase judges' retirement age by two years, was recently submitted to the Cabinet by the Ministry of Justice and subsequently approved.

The Government has stated the move is intended to help expedite the disposal of more than 1.1 million pending court cases across the country.
