Finance Ministry Secretary Mahinda Siriwardana is set to take up a senior position at the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
He is reportedly looking at taking up the position of Alternate Executive Director at the ADB representing Sri Lanka following his retirement as a public official in the country. It would be after a period of 12 years that a Sri Lankan would be appointed to this position at the ADB.
While Ajith Abeysekera, a Deputy Secretary to the Treasury, had applied for the ADB post, the Government had proposed Siriwardana’s name to the position instead.
Prior to his nomination to the post at the ADB, Siriwardana had held a similar position at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) before being appointed to the post of Finance Ministry Secretary.
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s Senior Consultant on Economic Affairs and Finance Duminda Hulangamuwa, who had also served as an adviser during former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s tenure, is tipped to be appointed as the new secretary to the Finance Ministry after Siriwardana’s retirement.
