The Department of Meteorology says showers or thundershowers will occur in several parts of Sri Lanka after 1.00 p.m. today (15).

Rainfall is expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern and North-Western provinces, as well as in Anuradhapura district. Fairly heavy showers of about 50 mm are likely in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.

Misty conditions are also expected during the early hours of the morning in the Central, Sabaragamuwa, North-Central and Uva provinces, along with Galle, Matara, Vavuniya and Kurunegala districts.

The public has been advised to take precautions against temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Meanwhile, the department noted that due to the sun’s northward movement, it will remain directly over Sri Lanka today, with overhead conditions expected around 12:10 p.m. in areas such as Pandatharippu, Thellippalai, Varuthaleivilan, Vasavilan and Manatkaadu.
