The Department of Meteorology has issued an 'Amber' advisory warning of severe lightning across several provinces.

Thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning are likely in the Northern, North-central, Eastern, and Uva provinces. 

Temporary localised strong winds are also expected during the storms.

The public is requested to take adequate precautions, including seeking shelter indoors, avoiding open areas such as paddy fields and open water bodies, and refraining from using wired telephones or connected electrical appliances. 

Local disaster management authorities should be contacted for emergencies.
