Digital motor insurance cards will be introduced from 1 May, the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development stated.

The initiative will be implemented with the Insurance Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka, the Insurance Association of Sri Lanka, and Sri Lanka Police.

The ministry stated the system will modernise motor insurance services and provide a paperless process for vehicle owners.

It added that replacing plastic cards with digital versions will also support environmental sustainability.
