The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) has informed court that a statement made by former President Ranil Wickremesinghe regarding MP Chamara Dassanayake’s case was false and had been given at the request of Dassanayake’s wife.
Dassanayake, a former Uva Chief Minister, is accused of causing a Rs. 17.3 million loss to public funds by prematurely withdrawing fixed deposits during his tenure.
CIABOC urged the court to revoke Dassanayake’s bail, citing concerns of possible interference with the ongoing investigation.
After careful judicial review, the court rejected the request made by CIABOC.
