Fifth and Sixth Review: IMF delegation arrives

27 Mar 2026

A delegation of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) arrived in the country yesterday (26), and is to remain in Sri Lanka until 9 April to complete the combined Fifth and Sixth reviews under Sri Lanka’s Extended Fund Facility (EFF) arrangement, as confirmed by IMF Director of  Communications Department Julie Kozack.

During the visit, the IMF delegation will hold discussions with Sri Lanka authorities on economic policies, and the potential impact of the Middle East conflict on the economy.

Following the IMF team visit, an updated assessment of Sri Lanka’s economy and how the IMF can best support Sri Lanka will be made, according to Julie Kozack.

Meanwhile, a staff-level agreement for the Fifth Review was reached on 9 October 2025.

IMF staff and the Sri Lankan authorities reached the staff-level agreement on economic policies to conclude the Fifth Review of Sri Lanka’s reform programme supported by the IMF’s Extended Fund Facility.

Once the review is approved by the IMF Executive Board, Sri Lanka will have access to about $ 347 million in financing.

Authorities have been planning to combine the Fifth and Sixth reviews due to the economic impact of cyclone Ditwah and shifting global demand, and the IMF team visit is expected to advance the Sixth tranche review process.
