Internet use among Sri Lankans aged 5–69 rose to 62.4% in 2025, up from 54.6% in 2024, according to the Department of Census and Statistics.

However, only 21.3% of households owned a desktop or laptop computer. Computer ownership was 37.8% in urban areas, compared with 18.6% in rural areas and 5.2% in the estate sector.

Internet use was highest among those aged 20–24 at 91.6%, but fell to 24.2% among people aged 60–69. Men also recorded slightly higher internet use than women, at 64.3% compared with 60.7%.
