Bilateral relations: Maldivian President to visit

President of the Maldives, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu is scheduled to visit Sri Lanka on 3 May on an invitation extended by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

He will remain in Sri Lanka until 5 May.

A number of memoranda of understanding (MoUs) are scheduled to be signed between Sri Lanka and the Maldives during President Muizzu’s State visit to the country. Cabinet approval has been granted to formalise multiple agreements aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation across a range of sectors. The MoUs are expected to enhance collaboration in defence, education, health, tourism, youth development, and archival management between the two countries.

Among the agreements to be signed is an MoU between the Defence Ministry and the National Service of the Republic of Maldives and the General John Kotelawala Defence University. The agreement will focus on the organisation of training programmes, staff exchange initiatives, and joint research activities between the two institutions. 

Meanwhile, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and Leader of the Communist Party, To Lam, is scheduled to address Parliament on 8 May. This was decided at the meeting of the Committee on Parliamentary Business held on Monday (27) under the Chairpersonship of the Speaker of Parliament Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne. On 8 May, at around 11.05 a.m., Lam is scheduled to arrive at Parliament and thereafter address the House.
