Sri Lanka’s official receive assets held by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) declined to $ 6,759 million by the end of April 2026, falling below $ 7 billion once again, since February of 2026, official data shows.
Accordingly, the official reserve assets, which stood at $ 7,026 million at the end of March 2026, declined to $ 6,759 million by the end of April 2026, a drop of 3.8%.
The main component of the Official Reserve Assets, foreign currency reserves, decreased from $ 6,800 million to $ 6,505 million during April, recording a 4.3% decline.
Meanwhile, the CBSL’s gold reserves also fell from $ 222 million to $ 219 million, a decrease of 1.2%, according to the latest data released by the reserve bank.
For the first time in 5 and a half years, Sri Lanka’s official reserve assets crossed the $ 7 billion threshold in February 2026, reaching $ 7,284 million by the end of that month.
However, the reserves declined by 3.5% in March to $ 7,026 million, and the downward trend continued for a second consecutive month in April.
