Campaigning for the 2025 Local Government (LG) election officially ended at midnight on 3 May, ushering in a silence period that will last until polls close on 6 May.
The Election Commission (EC) has banned all campaigning during this period, and police have warned that legal action will be taken against any violations, including the display of posters and banners.
More than 65,000 police officers have been deployed to ensure a smooth election process.
On 6 May, over 17.1 million eligible voters will choose representatives for 339 Local Government bodies across Sri Lanka, with 75,589 candidates in the fray.
Election watchdog PAFFREL will deploy around 3,000 observers to monitor the process nationwide.
