Former National Transport Commission (NTC) Chairman Renuka Perera has been remanded until 29 September following his arrest by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).

Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama issued the order today (17) after considering submissions from CIABOC officials and defence lawyers.

CIABOC alleges that Perera unlawfully issued 56 bus route permits to operate on the Southern Expressway during his tenure as NTC Chairman, without following prescribed procedures or collecting the annual fees in a single payment.

The alleged offences relate to provisions of the National Transport Commission Act and a 2014 Cabinet decision.
