Environment Minister Dammika Patabendi has ordered the temporary suspension of construction of a gabion barrier along the Pamunugama–Wahatiyagoda coastline in Wattala.

Officials found that the barrier had reportedly been constructed beyond the boundaries approved by the Department of Coast Conservation and extended into beach areas.

A formal investigation has been ordered into the project’s approvals, construction boundaries and implementation.
