As Sri Lanka’s political parties prepare for the first session of the 10th Parliament, discussions surrounding the appointment of National List members are still ongoing.
Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, elected MP for the Kalutara District from the National People’s Power (NPP), stated that his party’s National List would be finalised by last night (16).
Other political parties, including the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), have yet to finalise their lists.
The SJB’s elected MP for the Kurunegala District Nalin Bandara said that it would take several more days for the SJB to finalise its list of nominees.
It is learnt that the New Democratic Front (NDF), which secured two National List slots, is yet to finalise its nominees for its two slots.
Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam said yesterday that the party’s National Organiser, former MP Namal Rajapaksa had been proposed for the party’s National List slot.
The National List appointments for the 10th Parliament of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka are as follows: the National People’s Power (NPP) has secured 18 National List seats, while the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) follows with five.
The Ilankai Tamil Arasu Katchi (ITAK) has one National List seat and the New Democratic Front (NDF) has two.
The SLPP has received one National List seat.
Additionally, other political parties, including the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) and the Sarvajana Balaya have also been allocated National List seats.
