The Colombo Magistrate’s Court (MC) granted bail to the former Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Agriculture Mahesh Gammanpila.

Gammanpila was arrested over allegations of involvement in the importation of a consignment of substandard organic fertiliser from a Chinese company during the previous administration, reportedly causing $6.9 million loss to the Government.

Accordingly, the bail order was issued after careful consideration of the facts presented by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) and the defense counsel.
