President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has stated that the current government has no intention of privatizing Sri Lanka’s electricity sector.
He affirmed the government’s commitment to safeguarding the nation’s energy sovereignty, noting its critical role in economic development, national security, and national independence.
The President made these remarks today(22) during a progress review discussion on ongoing electricity sector reforms at the Presidential Secretariat.
President Dissanayake further clarified that the government’s objective is not to privatize but to eliminate the existing inefficiencies within the institutional structure of the electricity sector and to establish a streamlined, well-regulated framework.
