Economist has called for Sri Lanka to allow vehicle imports only based on necessity.
Professor Priyanga Dunusinghe of the University of Colombo said unnecessary imports increase pressure on foreign exchange reserves.
He stated that large volumes of vehicles have been imported recently, leading to unsold stock at sales yards.
He also noted that current surcharges allow importers to sell vehicles at higher prices.
Prof. Dunusinghe said imports should be limited to national requirements.
