The Department of Meteorology has issued a severe lightning advisory for Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and several districts.

Thundershowers with severe lightning are likely after 2.00 p.m. in Galle, Matara, Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya and Kurunegala districts.

Temporary strong winds may occur during thundershowers, the department stated.

The public has been advised to take precautions to minimise damage from lightning.
