The Ministry of Environment will designate forested Government lands as protected reserves under the new “Vanaspati” program. 

Deputy Minister Anton Jayakody stated that 20 areas, especially in Monaragala and Ampara, will be prioritized in the first phase. 

The initiative aims to safeguard ecologically vital forest patches and boost biodiversity and green cover.
