Third judge recuses himself in SLC Interim Committee case

16 Nov 2023 | BY Lahiru Doloswala

The Court of Appeal (CA) has scheduled the consideration of the petition regarding the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) interim committee for monday, 20 November.

The case will be heard by a new panel of judges after three judges recused themselves from the motion filed by Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe to revoke the stay order against the recently appointed SLC Interim Committee.

Today (16), Justice Neel Iddawela stepped down from the two-judge bench, which included Justice D. N. Samarakoon.

Last tuesday (14), CA President Nissanka Bandula Karunaratne recused himself, citing unfair criticism from the Sports Minister, some Cabinet members, and Parliamentarians.

The attorney representing the Minister of Sports objected to Justice Karunaratne hearing the petition, leading to the case being moved to another court.

However, Justice Dhammika Ganepola also recused himself from the two-judge bench with Justice Sobitha Rajakaruna, citing personal reasons.

The case is now awaiting the appointment of a new judge bench for the petition's hearing.
