President Anura Kumara Dissanayake on Monday (18) named National People's Power (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) Sunil Kumara Gamage as the new Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports.

The President made this appointment, when he unveiled the NPP Government’s new 22-member Cabinet of Ministers, at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo.

A qualified Chartered Accountant by profession, Sunil Kumara Gamage was nominated to enter the 10th Parliament via the National List of the NPP.

Gamage had also served as a former Deputy General Manager (GM) of the NWSDB during a 12-year tenure before retirement.

He succeeds Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, as the new Sports Minister after the latter had functioned as the subject Minister, in a three-member Cabinet.

This was since the incumbent President’s assumption to his post in the wake of his victory at the 21 September Presidential Poll.
