Govt. approves village guards to tackle human-elephant conflict

To combat rising human-elephant conflicts, the Sri Lankan government has approved the recruitment of village guards in high-risk areas. 


Deputy Minister of Environment Anton Jayakody revealed that the initiative, backed by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake,will be supported by the Civil Security Department and Wildlife Conservation data. 


Guards will receive a special allowance, aiming to restore safety and normalcy in affected rural communities.
