Minister Susil Ranasinghe says the government is strengthening water management measures in anticipation of possible El Niño conditions in the coming months.

A coordinated mechanism involving key water-related institutions has been established, with response plans to be reviewed again on 20 July.

The government has held discussions with the Department of Agriculture, Department of Irrigation, Mahaweli Authority of Sri Lanka and National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB).
