The new Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army Major General W.A.S.S. Wanasinghe RSP VSV USP ndu assumed office last week at Army Headquarters, in Sri Jayawardenepura.
Wanasinghe has a service history of 37 years and is an officer from the Regiment of Artillery. He is also the eldest son of one of the former Commanders of the Army Lieutenant General Hamilton Wanasinghe (Rtd.) VSV USP ndc, the 11th Commander of the Army.
Prior to this new appointment, Major General Wanasinghe served as the Deputy Chief of Staff.
He joined the Sri Lanka Army as an Officer Cadet in March 1987 with the 27th Intake of the Sri Lanka Military Academy at Diyatalawa, and was commissioned in the rank of Second Lieutenant and was posted to the Sri Lanka Artillery (SLA) Regiment in December 1988.
Wanasinghe is also an alumnus of the National Defence University of Beijing in China, where he earned his Master of Science in Strategic Military Studies degree.
