The government will seek to bear the maximum possible share of rising fuel costs to reduce the burden on the public, Cabinet Spokesman Minister Nalinda Jayatissa stated.
Cabinet has approved a further Rs. 41 billion from the Treasury for fuel subsidies over the next three months, with the allocation directed towards diesel.
Fuel prices will continue to be calculated monthly, while the government covers its allocated share based on international market developments.
Jayatissa also stated that there is no fuel shortage in the country, with sufficient stocks imported by the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation and other companies, and there is no need for the public to form queues.
