The Government has officially lifted the vehicle import ban through Gazette Extraordinary No. 2421/44, effective from today (1).
The new regulations permit the importation of cars, vans, buses, goods transport vehicles, trishaws, bicycles, and special-purpose vehicles under strict conditions.
Key Import Rules:
Only registered importers can bring in multiple vehicles. Others can import one vehicle per year.
All imported vehicles must be registered within 90 days to avoid penalties.
A 30% Customs Import Duty (20% CID + 50% surcharge) is applicable.
Import permits with concessionary duty rates are not valid.
Vehicles imported in violation of regulations must be re-exported within 90 days.
These measures aim to balance economic recovery while safeguarding foreign reserves and preventing excessive vehicle imports.
