Emergency response unit established to support Sri Lankans amid middle east tensions

03 Mar 2026 | BY Staff Writer

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism has established an Emergency Response Unit to coordinate matters arising from the ongoing tensions in the Middle East.

The Unit has been created with the primary objective of ensuring the safety and wellbeing of Sri Lankan nationals in the region.

With nearly one million Sri Lankans living and working in Middle Eastern countries, their protection remains the Government’s top priority.

The Division will closely monitor developments and provide necessary assistance to affected individuals and families.

In addition, the Unit will address concerns faced by foreign nationals currently in Sri Lanka due to the prevailing situation, handling cases individually to ensure appropriate support.

The Emergency Response Unit operates daily from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., including weekends.

For assistance, the public may contact the Emergency Response Unit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Consular Affairs Division, or the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment through the officially designated telephone numbers and hotline.
