Fuel oversight committee moves to address supply and pricing concerns

28 Mar 2026 | BY Staff Writer

A committee led by Minister Bimal Rathnayake has decided to appoint five officials from the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation to oversee fuel-related issues across all ministries and coordinate solutions.

The move comes amid concerns from industrialists over insufficient fuel quotas for distribution, which could lead to price increases during the upcoming Sinhala and Hindu New Year.

The committee stressed the need to ensure uninterrupted fuel supply, particularly for essential goods, while also fast-tracking a QR-based fuel distribution system for sectors like agriculture and fisheries.

Officials highlighted the importance of maintaining stable prices and avoiding shortages during the festive season, with fuel requests to be routed through relevant ministries to the Ministry of Energy for prompt action.
