A group of Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) organisers has called on former President Maithripala Sirisena to lead the party’s unification efforts.
They have urged him to either accept the party chairmanship or support the initiative without formally taking the role.
The affiliated group ‘Api Sri Lanka’ has also formally requested his leadership in restoring unity within the SLFP.
Sirisena has yet to respond directly, stating he will decide after the upcoming Local Government (LG) elections.
The party is currently facing internal divisions and unresolved legal cases involving prominent members, while it plans to contest the elections under the ‘chair’ symbol.
