Elephant deaths and human fatalities decrease in 2024

03 Oct 2024

The Department of Wildlife Conservation has reported a significant decline in elephant deaths and human fatalities due to wild elephants in the first eight months of this year.

While 340 elephants died during the same period last year, only 239 have died this year.

Human fatalities from elephant attacks have also decreased from 117 to 90.

The department credits this improvement to effective measures implemented to manage human-elephant conflicts.
