Sri Lanka's celebrated netball star, Tharjini Sivalingam, has officially announced her retirement from international netball. 


A true luminary of the sport, Sivalingam has been a cornerstone of Sri Lanka's netball success for many years. At 45 years old, she has made the heartfelt choice to step away from the international arena following the conclusion of the 2023 World Championship Netball.


Sivalingam's remarkable journey has left an indelible mark on netball, not only in Sri Lanka but also across Asia. Her longevity in the sport is a testament to her dedication and passion. She expressed her intention to continue taking part in club netball in Australia even after her retirement from international play.


Reflecting on her career, Sivalingam expressed gratitude for the opportunity to represent Sri Lanka on the world stage. Her achievements include participating in numerous international tournaments, including five Asian Netball Championships and four Netball World Cups. She was a standout performer, earning accolades such as the World Best Shooter Award in the 2011 Netball World Cup and the Asian Best Shooting Award in 2009 and 2012.


Sivalingam’s retirement marks the end of an era, but her contributions to the sport will be celebrated for years to come.
